Thanksgiving in the Woods

I am not sure why I always wish I had a cabin in the woods to go to for Thanksgiving. I for some unknown reason could see my boys hunt, not to kill but that kind of ruins the reason why one's hunt. Let me rethink this - watching the game on the TV.

Well I found a cabin that I wouldn't mind hiding out in during Thanksgiving and here it is:

Bermuda surviving the Hurricane

This beautiful island took a direct hit on Saturday. I don't know if you have ever been in a hurricane but the rain is torrential, you can hear objects being blown about, and the wind. There is a noise that goes with a hurricane and I can't believe that most of Bermuda went through this in the dark.

But if anyone can withhold a hurricane is Bermuda, because of the way the houses are built (the rest of the world could take a lesson from Bermuda.

The house are constructed from cement block and stucco. The roof will never cave in because it is constructed of concrete and limestone.

Traditional Exterior by Victoria Architects & Building Designers SOS Design

The reason why the roofs are made out of concrete and limestone is because we don't have a public water system. The water is caught on the roof and filtered into a cistern under the house. My father had me believing that there were little fish in the cistern keeping the water clean. I drank a lot of bottle water.

I am happy to say that my family came through it with no damage. Only the foliage was damaged. Good news about that is now you can see the homes that were hiding behind the foliage, bad new:

Images like this will be hard to find.

Keep on going Bermuda

Real Estate Tips For Buying a Waterfront Home

It is the end of the summer and the For Sale Signs are going up around ocean front, lakefront and channel front homes. A light bulb goes off in your head, "I think that we should buy a vacation home!" Yes, this is one of the best times to purchase a vacation home, after the season is over and the children go back to school. The family life is changing and maybe the home owner didn't spend as much time at the vacation home as they would like and it is on the market.

You should understand that the faint of heart should not buy a waterfront home. That body of water can and will turn on you. You need to look at all of the draw backs of waterfront ownership. Ask the locals about the winters are like when there is no one around. Where would they buy? How long does it take to get to fast water? These are important questions, maybe a free standing home isn't for you, maybe a condo that you could rent when you weren't using the unit.

Find a real estate agent who’s a true waterfront specialist. There are certain circumstances to buying a home in vacation land.

Fred Mac Murray, Star

You probably don't know who Fred Mac Murray was, he was everyone's favorite Dad. He starred on the Show My Three Son's. The actor was known to millions for his work in more than 100 movies and many popular television shows, but what most admirers don’t realize is that he created a life for himself far from Hollywood on a ranch outside of Healdsburg, California.

Last Big Backyard Summer Party In Style

Summer is wrapping up and we are giving a last blow out party before everyone departs for their winter life of schools, children's practices, and no time for dinner nights.

Using glass plates are a great idea. For Christmas Dinner I used glass plates with some really ugly chargers that I decoupaged with their pictures that I printed on regular paper. then they got to see themselves throughout the year and remember the events. It a source of hours of conversations and giggles.

Have a beer and sit around the firepit enjoying the summer breezes. All too soon, at least on the shores of Lake Erie, our evenings will be held inside around the TV.

Our music is of the cicadas chirping and the children's laughter. It is a serene setting with family and friends. Enjoy.

Until we meet again

Have you ever Seen a Pink Dolphin?

A million years ago, marine life swam the oceans, rivers and seas alike. Unencumbered only Mother Nature and the next fish that was larger than them could be their demise. Meet the Amazon River Dolphin. At their largest the pink amazon river dolphin can grow to be over 8 ft. long (not common) and weigh up to 450 pounds.
On average males tend to grow between 5 – 6 1/2 ft. long, while females typically grow larger than their male counterparts measuring between 5 1/2 - 8 ft. long with both species generally weighing under 250 lbs. when fully matured.

The Earth is covered by 2/3 water. This water or bodies of water consist of 6 Oceans and 13 Seas and she nurtures billions of different marine life. It is our air conditioner. We need to take care of her or our life source will cease to be. Can you imagine being out on your boat and this magnificent majestic creature swam past your boat.

I grew up in Bermuda. I remember watching the whales pass. We never got close enough or lucky enough to get a close up but just knowing that they were free and apart of a plan.

I have never seen a pink dolphin, but it wouldn't be amazing to see one in their natural habitat?

This is the way the oceans should be- man and marine life co-existing. We manage to kill over 100Million Sharks a year. First, I am sort of glad or we would be up to our asses in Sharks. But the Hammerhead Shark is endangered because of over fishing. Did you know that Orange Roughy is now not a sustainable fish. They have been over fished and now don't have the time to reproduce. There are list of Sustainable Fish. Fish that is alright for you to eat.
